This is review of Bandai action figure SHFiguarts Father of Ultra from Ultraman A.
Bandai Action Figure SHFiguarts Father of Ultra Review
As usual, the sculpt is stable and solid, with a robust build that is faithfully recreated. The darker shade of red compared to other Ultraman figures is also accurately represented, matching the original image.
Head Sculpt
The most distinctive feature, the horns, are sharp and well-shaped, giving an excellent appearance. The beard on the cheeks is also faithfully reproduced as seen in the show. The eyes are made with the usual foggy clear parts. There were no particular issues with the paint job either.
Body Sculpt
Chest and Abdomen: The chest is slightly thicker, and the abdomen is broad, giving the figure a solid build. The red color is close to maroon, and the paint application is precise.
Waist and Limbs
Arms and Legs: The thighs are slightly thicker, but the limbs are not much different from other figures. The gloves and the wrinkles around the shins are crafted with realistic detail.
Accessories
- Optional Parts: As usual, a red replacement color timer is included.
- Ultra Array: The spherical part is recreated with clear parts, and a dedicated hand for holding it is also included.
- Father Shot Effect: This part, as usual, is used by swapping out the entire wrist. The effect is intricately painted over clear parts, giving it a sophisticated look.
Comparison with the Ultra Brothers
The head height, not including the horns, is almost the same as the other figures.
Poseability
The articulation is mostly the same as recent Ultraman S.H. Figuarts. The shoulders can be pulled out by about 30 degrees.
The neck and waist rotate smoothly, allowing for a wide range of fighting poses. As always, there are plenty of interchangeable hand parts.
Kicking Pose: The legs can be raised sufficiently.
Ultra Charge to Mebius: The figure can kneel, but since the hips do not have a pull-out mechanism, care must be taken not to leave marks on the thighs as usual.
Ultra Array Extraction: This part is beautifully finished with clear parts. It would have been even better if there were an additional part for the illuminated state.
Father Shot: This effect part is the same as usual, with the unique color accurately reproduced.
Ultra Shower to Ace: The arms don't bend inward much, so it's impossible to recreate the pose with the elbows extended.
Summary
The robust body type is well-recreated, with a slightly thicker torso compared to other figures. The iconic horns and beard are also reproduced without any issues, and the darker shade of red is precisely captured. The articulation is stable and similar to previous figures, and the inclusion of the Ultra Array and Father Shot Effect—both memorable options from the show—makes this figure a solid offering.
If you've been collecting the previous figures in this series, this one will look great when displayed alongside the Ultra Brothers.
