This is a detailed review of SHFiguarts Ultraman Belial (Darkness Heels Ver.), a figure that embodies the fearsome essence of the iconic villain. Despite being labeled as the Darkness Heels Ver. to reflect his antagonist role, the base body is essentially the same as the New Generation Stars Ver., with only the included accessories differing slightly. It’s closer to a re-release with some updates rather than a completely new sculpt.
Head Sculpt and Detailing
The face sculpt remains identical to the 2019 release, but still holds up remarkably well against newer figures. The sharp contours, distinctive eye shape, and the smooth gradient paint on the eyes are true to the on-screen appearance and very well done.
The mouth opens and closes, and the teeth are intricately detailed. While the prototype seemed to allow for a wider mouth opening, the actual figure may vary slightly due to individual differences.
Body and Proportions
Ultraman Belial's signature wide, muscular build is faithfully recreated. Unlike standard Ultraman figures, this version does not include a replacement Color Timer, which adds to its unique character. The red and black color scheme is bold and striking, matching the dark tone of the character.
The arms and legs are proportionally larger and bulkier, especially the thick arms and oversized hands with sharply sculpted claws. The stocky legs are also perfectly represented.
Articulation and Poseability
Articulation is excellent across the board. The neck and waist rotate generously, allowing for dynamic poses. Shoulders lift high, elbows and knees bend deeply, and even without a pull-out joint in the hips, the range of motion is impressive and allows for wide stances and stable posing.
You can easily recreate action scenes, including claw slashes and high kicks. Despite its bulky build, the articulation is on par with standard Ultraman figures, even enabling single-leg poses.
Accessories and Effects
Instead of the Giga Battlenizer accessory included in the 2019 standard version, this release comes with a brand-new Deathcium Ray effect part, integrated into the right wrist. While the Giga Battlenizer is omitted, the gripping hand is still included, so you can equip it with the Ultra-Act version if you have it.
Comparison and Display
When placed next to New Generation Stars versions of Zero or Geed, Belial's unique proportions—larger head, thick torso, massive hands—stand out dramatically. The figure makes for an eye-catching display, especially in battle scenes with other characters.
Summary
The SHFiguarts Ultraman Belial (Darkness Heels Ver.) is a fantastic option for collectors who missed the original 2019 release. Though fundamentally the same in body design, the inclusion of new effect parts and slight adjustments make it a compelling addition. If you already own the standard version with the Giga Battlenizer, you may not need this one. However, for those new to the character or looking to complete their Darkness Heels lineup, this is a solid and highly recommended purchase.
